  • Fecha: 11-12-2013
  • MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (December 11, 2013) The Fogarty Institute for Innovation, in conjunction with El Camino Hospital’s Norma Melchor Heart and Vascular Institute and VIVA Physicians, Inc. (VIVA), has announced that it is accepting applications for the prestigious Advanced Endovascular Training Fellowship that will run from July 2014 through June 2015.

Applications will be accepted through the institute’s website, www.fogartyinstitute.org, until Feb. 14, 2014. Applicants will be notified if they are finalists on Feb. 18th and finalists will be scheduled on March 7th for interviews.

Selected fellows will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the leading endovascular experts in the world. The program offers cardiologists, interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons the chance to broaden their expertise in vascular disorders. The one-year Fellowship conforms to Accreditation Council for Graduate Academic Education guidelines.

This advanced fellowship is a unique and interdisciplinary opportunity for post-graduate physicians to gain intensive experience in structural heart and endovascular interventions. Fellows will interact broadly and collaboratively with interventional cardiologists and radiologists, as well as vascular and cardiac surgeons. Clinical cases span all vascular beds from neurovascular, complex thoracic and abdominal aneurysms, critical limb ischemia, venous interventions, percutaneous aortic and mitral valve technologies, and many more. The program also has a strong emphasis in research and clinical trials.

Those selected for the fellowship will be exposed to the latest medical innovations at the Fogarty Institute for Innovation, located on the grounds of El Camino Hospital, working closely with some of brightest biomedical device engineers and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley. Fellows will have time to refine their clinical skills, participate in didactic conferences, and interact closely with mentors in their respective fields to tailor the experience to meet their individual needs. We believe strongly that innovation and collaboration, across a broad range of disciplines, will allow physicians to become the endovascular leaders of tomorrow.

“After completing my Interventional Radiology Fellowship, I was selected for one of the Advanced Endovascular Training Fellowships,” said Dr. Kavi Krishnasamy. “Not only has this Fellowship allowed me to learn new techniques and further refine the endovascular skills I acquired in my primary Fellowship, but it has provided me with an enormous amount of vascular experience. From patient presentation to device usage, the cases we managed during the Fellowship run the full gamut of therapeutic options.”

To be eligible for consideration, applicants must have board-certified or board-eligible, training in interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, or vascular surgery. A California Physicians License will be required for those selected into the program.

The Advanced Endovascular Training Fellowships are underwritten by the Fogarty Institute for Innovation, the Norma Melchor Heart and Vascular Institute at El Camino Hospital and VIVA Physicians, Inc.
